The Old West was a time period of expansion and lawlessness in America. Famous gunslingers and lawmen like Billy the Kid and Wyatt Earp battled it out in the streets of mining, ranching, and logging towns west of St. Louis. Inside, gamblers and saloon girls mingled in the seedier establishments. Hollywood has stylized this time period distorting what we think of as 'Cowboys and Indians'. Now, we know more of the time period that encompasses 1850 - 1920.
